Telephone Support

If you are having trouble with your telephone line you may call repair service by dialing 611 (from a 363 exchange line) or 363-6277. When reporting an outage or problem please be sure to include your name, phone number, street address and a brief explanation of the problem. We do have an after-hours answering service for trouble reports. After hours calls should be limited to emergency problems, please.
You may save service call charges and a trip to your house by a technician if you can determine if the problem is inside your home or outside in the company's lines. To do this you will need to have a telephone that you know is in good working order and you will need to check your service at the Network Interface Device located outside your house (usually near the power meter). See the pictures below for the steps to take:
Below is a picture of a standard Network Interface Device (NID). The actual NID on your house may be slightly different. You will notice inside the red oval the words, "Customer Access". An arrow next to it shows where you will go to gain access to the customer portion of the NID.
Using an appropriate screwdriver open the customer access door on the NID.
With the access door open you will see a modular connector for your telephone line. Some NID's will have only one modular connector, some will have two, while some may have more than two. The connectors should be marked "Line 1", "Line 2", etc. Unplug the small cable from the connector on the appropriate line.
Plug your working telephone into the modular jack.
Now using the telephone you just connected at the NID, see if the problem you were experiencing before is still on the line. If the problem is no longer there then it is inside your house, either in the wiring, a jack, or any device connnected to the line (telephone, answering machine, computer, satellite dish, etc.). If the problem still exists then it is in the telephone company's property, you should call repair service.
